The River Shannon is Ireland’s longest and most important waterway, flowing 240 miles south and west from County Cavan, touching 17 counties and forming three loughs - Allen, Ree and Derg - before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean at the Shannon Estuary in Limerick.  Known as the ‘wise river’ it was named after the goddess Sionnan, granddaughter of King Lir.  Legend has it that Sionnan visited the pool at the source of the river to see Fintan, the Salmon of Knowledge, but the waters rose up against her and carried her out to sea where she drowned. Discover the secrets and legends of this magical waterway on board the River Shannon Explorer and make memories you will treasure for years to come.
